Apprenticeships
We understand that many people with a disability feel that the apprenticeship system is too hard for them. But Australian
apprenticeships are different and our results show that with our support you can achieve your ambitions too!
We have a proven record with apprenticeships supporting one of the highest numbers of apprentices and trainees with a disability
in Australia AND we have arranged the approval over ½ million dollars of Disabled New Apprentice Wage Support incentives
for local employers
Australian Apprenticeships mean flexible training, experience and a nationally recognised qualification. It is a new way
to train and Key Employment has the experience and skills to assist people with a disability move into this exciting and
flexible career area. Some of the traineeships and apprenticeships we have found and supported locally are in auto mechanics,
hairdressing, bakery, butchery, carpentry, electrical and hospitality.
Working with local employers, TAFE and the various NSW and Federal government departments Key Employment supports clients
on the job and in learning support as well.

Key Apprentices

Matt - Auto Mechanic
"School wasn't much fun for me. I seemed to be always in trouble and the work was hard. But I always wanted to
work with cars. After speaking to a consultant at Key Employment they made me believe I could be an apprentice and become
a mechanic. Then they helped me do it. I started as a workshop assistant then did some time as an apprentice spray painter.
But now I have nearly finished my auto mechanics apprenticeship. It can be heavy work, often really busy and there is lots
of pressure but I love it. Some of the TAFE work has been hard but Key arranged support for that as well."

Paul - Wood Machinist
"I am happy to say that I don't need Key Employment anymore. They helped me get this apprenticeship and saw me
all the way through the four years. They helped the boss get a good apprentice subsidy too. I always worked hard so there
was never any problem there but anytime I needed help (like when I couldn't get to work) they were there for me. I'm a tradesman
now with a big future. Years ago when I was leaving school I never thought this would happen."

Lucas - Butcher
"I was still at school when Paul from Key saw me. I was in year 10 and wanted to leave and some people wanted me
to stay and do my HSC. But Paul agreed with me. He listened to what I wanted and said I should leave and get an apprenticeship.
And that's what happened. 5 years later I'm a butcher
a fully trade qualified butcher. Great pay, great boss, great
future. All those years ago Paul said lets work out what you want to do, find the barriers to doing it and then - together
knock down those barriers. I guess that sums up what Key Employment does."
