KiKASS - Kids in KEY’S Apprentice Support Scheme

Aim of KiKASS

To assist the successful transition of school students with disability into valued mainstream employment by providing an annual incentive program for schools and the business community. Key Employment plans to place a minimum of two apprentices per High School in the region. The Kids in Key Apprentice Support Scheme (KiKASS) seeks to identify, enhance and create employment opportunities for students with disability.

How does KiKASS work?

Each secondary school in the region, North to Iluka and South to Kempsey inclusive, will be offered the opportunity to recommend their students to the program.

  • Eligible students apply for the apprenticeship they are interested in. The schools are informed of the apprenticeships on offer to further identify eligible and interested candidates.

Key Employment will provide the KiKASS apprentice with:

  • The necessary training, employability skills, confidence and work ethic for a successful placement
  • Tutorial and mentoring support funded under the DAAWS program.
  • Workplace support for full apprenticeship if required.

Key Employment will assist the apprentice employer with:

  • Full apprenticeship wage subsidy for the first year (Scholarship excludes super, overtime, penalty rates)
  • Ongoing financial support for full term of apprenticeship if the apprentice remains a Key Employment client
  • Assistance developing detailed Safe Operating Procedures
  • Commitment to ongoing client and employer support by qualified staff in case management.
